Breaking News:
Sunday 12 June:
A message from Pete Rowlands:
Our attempt to row around the UK has been brought to an abrupt end due to adverse weather conditions 0n
the East coast, coupled with the fact that both our VHF communication systems had failed and our essential water maker had
a serious leak, we were left with no other choice but to call the challenge off and head to Lowestoft for the boat to be recovered.
Many thanks for all the message of support received.
Wednesday 8 June:
Despite
the weather being against them Commando Joe have finally cleared the mouth of the Humber estuary. Unfortunatley the
weather for the next couple of days is still not going to be in their favour. After speaking to the team this morning,
they are in good spirits and determined to get through the bad weather.
Monday 6 June:

Sunday 5 June 2011
Start delayed due to bad weather.
Sunday 5 June
2011
Commando-Joe get ready to start their epic row around Great Britain.
On the turn of todays
high tide Commando-Joe will start out from Scarborough Marina, in their atempt to row unsupported around Great Britain.
COMMANDO JOE TEAM SET TO UNDERTAKE AN INDEPENDENT ROW OF THE UK. The Commando Joe Team were originally signed up to participate in the Virgin GB Row 2011 Race starting from Tower
Bridge, London on 1 June 2011, however due to lack of participants the Anglo American Boat Race Company has cancelled the
event. Not wanting to disappoint their charities, the Meningitis Trust and BLESMA, Porky, John, Dave and Pete have decided
to undertake an independent row of the UK which will be verified by the Ocean Rowing Society.
Due
to the tide and unpredictable weather conditions the team as yet are unable to pin point their exact departure date and time
but plans are now set for them to depart from Scarborough Marina during the best weather window of opportunity between Sunday
5 June and Wednesday 8 June.

Welcome
Commando Joe will participate in the Virgin GB Row 2011 starting and finishing at Tower Bridge
London. This ultra extreme rowing event will circumnavigate around the United Kingdom mainland. The race is unsupported with
a prize fund which if won will be split between the charities.
Billed by the organisers (Anglo
American Boat Club Limited) as 'the most difficult rowing race in the world...the ultimate
challenge'. Commando Joe believe this statement would attract some discussion from the extreme rowing
community! The true challenge is against nature and the raw and sometimes brutal power of the elements...planning, preparation,
determination, commitment and double shot of luck is required by all to be successful.
Both
ocean and coastal passages present obstacles to success and theses obstacles sit equally at the upper end of the
difficulty spectrum, more thoughts...click here.
Who are Commando Joe?
Commando Joe were formed in 2003 to support the objectives
of The Meningitis Trust, to date we have raised approximately £280,000.00 pounds for the Trust and have undertaken
numerous extreme challenges. Commando Joe will support both The Meningitis Trust and BLESMA charities whilst participating
in the Virgin GB Row:
