Shepherd Purple Heart Ocean Row 2009

The 'Shepherd Purple Heart Ocean Row 2009' sees former military man John Mollison do battle with the weather, wind and tides as he attempts an unsupported solo voyage across one of the world’s great expanses of water.

Raising money for BLESMA

The challenge is raising money for the British Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Association and awareness of an escalating campaign and Downing Street on-line petition designed to encourage the British government to adopt an American-style Purple Heart decoration for military personnel injured or killed while serving their country.

The 'Shepherd Purple Heart Ocean Row' is the latest in a line of Commando Joe adventures which includes the Arctic 2005, Atlantic Ocean Fours 2006, Gobi Desert Challenge 2008 – with another planned for this year - and the Scottish Ultra 2009.
